Thalam Therapy

Thalam Therapy

Thalam is an Ayurvedic therapy in which medicated herbal paste or oil is applied to the crown of the head (Brahmarandhra – the highest energy point on the head). It is a highly effective treatment for neurological, psychological, and stress-related conditions. The cooling and soothing effects of the herbal paste help in calming the nervous system, improving concentration, and relieving mental stress.
This therapy primarily balances Pitta and Vata doshas, helping in conditions like migraine, insomnia, anxiety, and memory loss.

Procedure of Thalam Therapy

  • Purva Karma (Pre-Treatment Preparation)

The patient is made to sit or lie down in a comfortable position. A gentle head massage with medicated oil is performed to relax the scalp.

  • Pradhana Karma (Main Procedure)

A medicated paste or oil is applied to the crown of the head (Brahmarandhra). It is left in place for 30–45 minutes to allow absorption. A cotton pad or banana leaf may be placed over the paste to prevent drying. The patient rests in a calm environment during the process.

  • Paschat Karma (Post-Treatment Care)

The paste is gently removed and the head is cleaned with warm herbal water. The patient is advised to avoid cold exposure and stress after the therapy. A light, Sattvic diet is recommended post-treatment.
